Sometimes you've got to go back to what you know best. / by Eric Mayville

I'll be honest, it's been a long time since I have personally made a website. From conception to development, I used to do it all. Over the years of running Wondersauce with my friends I ultimately landed at focusing on the operations and the growth of the business. That meant no more pushing pixels, writing incredibly obtuse functions, or losing sleep over my inability to grasp vertical alignment in CSS.

The core of what you know best doesn’t go away as you grow. It’s there to serve you and help you take on new challenges.

I never lost sight of what made a great website or user interaction. The core of what you know best doesn't go away as you grow. It's always there to serve you and help you take on new challenges.

Putting this site back together is reigniting things I have not had the chance to think about for a while, and I believe that is a great way to continually get better at what I do. So, think about what it was you were doing professionally (or academically as a student) a few years ago. Go back to that. Think about your mindset then and your goals for your old self. What can you do with the knowledge you have today that you didn't have back then? It's a quick exercise that will ultimately help your current day-to-day. Even if it doesn't change anything, it at least provides some humility in terms of how much your skills have grown.
